
The Loveparade In Dortmund, the biggest party in the world, attracted 1.6 million visiters tot the Ruhr metropolis.
On July 19th 2008, the Loveparade celebrated in Dortmund on the federal highway directly to the Westfalenhallen under the motto "Highway To Love".
For the first time in history, the "Metropolis Highway", one the most heavily traveled roads in Germany, was completely blocked off for the event.
This was also the first time for the Loveparade, which has never taken place in such an unusual location before. The traditional final rally will be celebrated on the grounds in front of the Westfalenhallen.
The Loveparade started in really good weather, but rain didn't spoil the party.

The Loveparade has it's roots in the spirit of a changing Europe. In 1989, it was first celebrated 4 months before the demolition of the Berlin Wall. It was started by the fresh Berlin Underground under the initiative of Matthias Roeingh aka Dr. Motte. It was held as a political demonstration for peace and international understanding through music.
